One of us escaped and appealed to the British Consul. The captains of the oruisers Lancaster and. Suffolk and the Consul came aboard and demanded onr release. The commander refused. Tho Consul and captains departed, after warn iog the-commandor that special measures would be taken unless the Britishers were liberated in an hour, and a quarter of an honr later the Lancaster raised her anchor as i£ approaching the Dnieper. The commander thereupon permitted us to leave with our luggage.”
