Now South Wales, was played this afternoon under perfect weather condition*, Tho visitors winning the toss played with a light north-easterly wind at their backs. Tho gomo was stubbornly oontostod throughout. Tho Now Zealanders do not at present shape os well ns some previous teams which havo visited hero, but they certainly labored under a disadvantage, playing on tho top of a roughish trip. Even with this disadvantage they were more than a match for their opponents. The visitors were more aotive than the iooal men and at timia swarmed over them. After a few minutes’ ploy in centre of the ground Smith started a passing rush, but whs smothered and a free kick was awarded. Tho home tsam relieved the tension, but it was only momentarily, j as McGregor punted the return and | charged down after the ball, and putting his side on allowed O’Sullivan to get possession and ha crossed tho lino after a straggle. Waliaoe took the kick, but failed to increase tho score. New Zealand 3, New South Woles nil. Ploy was quiokly book in the blues’ ground, and in a smart bit of passing from Roberts to Mynott, tho latter was enabled to register the second try. Wallace was again entrusted with the kiok and made a splendid effort, tho ball just shaving the post, but on the wrong side. New Zealand 6, New South Wales nil. A little later the blues got a mark in close proximity to the New Zealand goal line, but M. Smith was unsnocosful in the attempt to send the ball over the bar. Play was then taken to the centre of the field* from where men set np a fine rush, which raised the enthusiasm of the orowd. ' The back defence of the visitors, however, was too good, and the fine work of the Now Zealanders waa also more satisfactory that that of their opponents, the line being used frequently with finer judgment. Nor further score had been made when the whistle sounded half-time. The second spell was very spirited and open, Perman doing some kioking, one from half distance oansing New Zealand to force Some exciting tussles followed, neither sido having much advantage, but New South Wales at one moment earns near scoring, tho really only | anxious moment in that direction J throughout ths game, but the superior work of the New Zealand back division again averted danger. Then Roberts picked up the ball in his own 25 and whipped it aoross to Smith, who elicited cheers from the orowd as he dashed np the field. Smith gradually threaded his way through the opposing forwards and successfully passed the three quarters and passed neatly to Waliaoe as the full back came at him, aud so allowed Wallace to score. Gillett converted and tho score stood : New Zealand 14. New South Wales

nil. Even play followed with an occasional inroad on each other’s territory, only to get back to neutral zone. A dangerous bit of passing seemed to make for another score, but Penman with a fine kick relieved his side. The blacks however promptly returned to the attack and had the locals on the defensive on their goal line. From the line out New Zealand were driven to centre field, where they organised a rush, out of which Hunter ran in.
