©Be SUouee resumes Hi 7..3.0. Mr Seddon'moved the second reading of the Old-Age Pension Act Amendment Bill, whioh increased the annual pension from £lB to £26. He said the fioancial position of the colony warranted the increased expenditure under the BUI, which would amount to about £IOO,OOO a year. Dealing with the question of universal penaionß, Mr Seddon asked whether tho colony was prepared to pay an additional half million taxation to provide a pension for everyone over 65 years of ago who had been 25 years resident in tho colony ? Mr Massey regarded the Bill as a wholesale electioneering bribe. Things would not be always so prosperous as now, and he was afraid the proposed increase might result in breaking down the whole system. The debate was prooeeding at midnight.
