The wool sales opened with brisk competition. Prices were par to 10 per cent, in advance of the closing rates of last series.
RECORD ATTENDANCE AND KEEN COMPETITION.
By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright Received 10.6 p.m., July 5. London. July 5. At the wool sales 9822 bales were catalogued, chiefly inferior crossbreds. There was a record attendance from all parts. There was keen gonoral competition, including Americana. Oomparod with tho May closing rates coarse crossbreds advanced 10 per cent; fine, par to 5 per cent.; merinos were irregular, but average fully 5 per cent, advance.
The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Limited, received the following cablegram from their London office yesterday : —“ Wool: Market opened strong for all eorts. As compared with last sales dosing rates prices ere about per to 5 per cent higher for ■ crossbred lambe, fine crossbred, medium crossbred and merino, and about 10 per cent higher for coarse crossbred.” Messrs* Williams and Kettle have re- I ceived the following advice regarding the I London wool sales ;—” Fine wools 2£ to 6 I per cent higher, coarse 10 to 124* per cent I higher,” 1
