I returned thanks on behalf of the two I Hawke’s Bay corps for the cordial reception they had received. They were I more than surprised at the publicity given ! to their meeting in Gisborne, as in other -towns they were dismissed with a brief local. The people of Gisbcrno took n keen intrrost in education, and were in advance of Napier in regard to Technical education. In future Gisborne would be included in rotation with .the other towns where the ■ Institute met! ,

, The members of the Institute theri proceeded, to the business of the meeting, in committee.

The balance sheet showed : Receipts £4l 14s 5d and a debit balance of £3 17s sd. The Sports Association githering at Waipukaru last year showed : Becsipts £lls la 7d, credit balance £l6 2s sd.

•The teachers' superannuation scheme, drawn up at tbe recent conference at Wellington was approved of. ; Tbo meeting advocated a uniform time throughout New Zealand for school examinations, and synchronous examinations for standard six, and teachers under competent supervision. It was decided that the Education Board be requested .to appoint officers in the various centres to prosecute parents whose children failed to - make the Decessary number of attendances as required by. the Ac t.

It was decided that eaeh branch officially nominate one delegate to represent it at the annual meeting of the N.Z.E.I. instead of the throe delegates chosen promiscuously as at present.

The e'ection of officers resulted:—President, Mr Harvey, Duuuevirko; vicepresidents, Rev. Dodds, Napier, and Mr Itowioy, Gisborne ; secretary and treasurer, Mr O. Ouughey, Kaikora North ; Sbo two vacancies on the committee to be filled at a Jeter date by the branches concerned. There was a large gathering at His Mojosty’s Theatre in the evening, when the visitors were entertained at a social. Tbo evening was devoted to music, cards and dancing, and the function was in every respect a most enjoyable one, terminating about midnight.
