A. & P. SOCIETY

ANNUAL MEETING.

There was a large and representative attendance at the annual meeting of the Poverty Bay Agricultural aud Pastoral Society held on Saturday afternoon. Mr T. Holden presided. The report of the Committee, was as follows:—“The year just closed has been a successful one to the Society. We commence the now year with a membership of 370, as compared with 269 in 1903, and 212 in 1902. A lease ha’ been entered

into with the Park Company for show ground on very satisfactory terms, and being for 21 yoars, with the right of renewal for a second 21 years, the Sooiety is justified in making its improvements of a permanent nature, and at the present time sufficient ground is being levelled in front of the grand stand to permit all classes of stock being shown there, a result that will be appreciated fay exhibitors and spectators alike. Hearty thanks aro duo to the donators of special prizes, whoso liberality has so materially assisted the Society. A challenge cup was instituted last year for competition amongst the fat sheep classes, and resulted very largely to increasing the entries, and having to be won in a series of times before becoming the property of an exhibitor, it will continue to assist in arousing interest in these classes each year. There is every likelihood of similar cups baing offered for competition in both the fat lamb aud fat cattle classes, and fat stock being such a largo factor in the welfare of our district doubt-

leas everyone will be pleased io see keen competition amongst its producers. There was a large increase in the produce exhibits laat year, and it is the wish of your committee to encourage this section to the fullest extent, and with this view a permanent 'produce and industrial shed is contemplated, with provision for displaying theso exhibits to the best advantage.” The report concluded with the usual yotrs of thanks.

The following officers were elected for the ensuing, year:—President, Mr T. Holden; vice-president, Mr F. B- Barker; treasurer, Mr D. Morice ; auditors, Messrs A. Graham and 3. E. Eliott; Committee, Messrs F. B. Barker, H. G. Tucker, M. R, Murphy, and W. G. Sberratt, As Mr Barker had also been elected vice presi dent it was decided to recommend to the committee that Mr W. Bell be appointed to the committee, ho haviog been next in order in the poll.
