However* a settlement is api>areat. TOKOMARU BAY. '(Times’ Correspondent.)' * June 25. The football match between the Awanui Club and Tolago was won by Awanui by 11 points to 6. Tolago played with only ten men. The Waiapu Rugby Union mefe on Saturday night and arranged fixtures up to August 19th, two matches to be played each Saturday from now. Mr Sigley kindly consented to act as referee in all matches played at Tokomarn. and the Union will endeavor to arrange for referees at Awanui and Tolago Bay. All the back settlers were in to a-meeting of the Farmers’ Union on Saturday, when officers for the year were elected and other business of local interest was transacted. A meeting was also held on Saturday in connection with the pushing on of the landing stage and receiving sheds at Te Ariuru. Messrs E. K. Marphy, G. Hindmarsh, L. E. Cotterill, W. Potae, and Tihui were elected to act as a committee for oarrying out all business up to the point of calling for tenders.

PORT AWANin. '(From Our Own Corresp.oncteiit.) June 24. Winter has fairly, set in now, and wo have had some very rough weather, which has made the roads and rivers in a bad condition. The recent heavy seas have interfered with the shipping, and the s.s. Haupiri had a very rough passage up to Auckland last time. Messrs Robertson and Leslie have disposed of their business here to Mr A. B. Jackson, late of Tuparoa. Constable Mellsop, late of the Spit, is now in charge of this police station. Constable Kelly and family are taking their departure by the next trip of the Haupiri. The schooner Kaeo (Captain Skinner) arrived here from Auckland last week, and landed the timber for the new school, and also much other genoral cargo. The Aotea (Captain Brown) worked this port last Wednesday on her way up to Auckland.

Miss Neal has resigned her position as mistress of the Port Awanui school.
