WATER SUPPLY
PUBLIC MEETING THIS EVENING EE SOLUTIONS TO BE PROPOSED. A meeting of those ratepayers who signed tbo requisition to His Worship the Mayor, requesting that a public mooting should be held to consider matters in connection with tho water supply, was held fast evening. There was a fully representative attendance. It was agreed that the following resolutions should be submitted to the public meeting to be hold, in His Majesty s Theatre to night: — « That this meeting respeeifnlly requests ibe Borough Council not to uee any steel gsioes iD connection with-tbo water works, j <4B there are very strong reasons to believe . gbat there are grave' doubts as to tbeir durability,” ~ , , « That this meeting would a'so strongly urge upon the Council to have tho proposed reservoir ejected within a radius of nine miles fr.om town, an order to have a Bupply of water on the town side of the dangerous ground, thus allowing a 9-incbmain to be ased instead of a 14-inoh one from some 13 miles from the source to the reservoir, thereby breaking tbo pressure and materially cheapening the scheme.” “ That in ibe opinion of this meeting no percent ago should bo paid to the engineer .over and above the sum of his present .estimate for the work.acd that a provision to this effeot be included ia the agreement.” * , 11 In tbs event of the cost of tbs works -- exceeding the engineer’s estimate, that a * deduction be made of five per cent for every hundred oyer and above bis original
