Tho forwards were well : Snatched, each side securing the ball I equally from tho pack The Huia back •DA play, however, was marked with groufcer combination, and there was more sting in their attack. Robinson, at five-eights for Huia, made splendid openings, and played a brilliant gani9. He was well assisted by the three-qnarter division, Roah and Toto. i being particularly noticeable. From a ] kiok bv Park tho Huia forwards swept the ]
-mutt oy iratK tno xiuia ball down on the City Mur, and Te lveioga takiDg a pass from Wauchopo scored in a *;> good position. Tho kick was effortless. Hay, the City half, shot tho leather out to Bolamcre, who made a fine opening and transferred to Ecekana. The lafctsr gave she ball to Schraffs close to tho Huia i goal line, and a sura try was thrown away . \ by a faulty pass, which lot Sharp save, and from defending Huia took the aggressive. Sharp with a splendid run carried the ball from his own line to within a
v dozen yards of that of his opponents. His pass was nullified by Murphy, but the Huia forwards with pretty foot work ’ negotiated taa white lino and Thomson y scored closo to the touch line. Shortly * _ after the commencement of the second spell City lost Murphy, who sprained a sinew in his log. City had the best of the play during the second half, and Huia were continually on the defensive. Sharp at full-back for Huia saved hi 3 side on several occasions when a score seemed Certain. Laskor ’also saved well. Hay goo tho ball nicely away from tho scrum, but a few mistakes, fsulty passing and ;' r handling, soon lost the backs their confidence in each o f hor, and the combination was destroyed. The only try in tho second half was secured by Leah, the wing-threequarfcer, and was the r V T outcome of a splendid run by Tate, who ■h carried play out of touch near the City I line. Te Rernga put the leather into the y r centre of the field, and Park gaining pos- , session sent it out to Leah, who scored. • There was no further score, aad the game
resulted : Huia 12 points! Kaiti-City 5. Of the 'City backs all played well individnaliy, bus without confidence in each other. PufletD at full gave a good exhioiA tion, and Hay and Doiamere were also conspicuous. Nolan at wing threequarfier played a splendid defensive game, but Erekana and Sohrafft, on the Borne line were not seen to advantage. Of the forwards, ■i Hoyden, Martin, Freer, Allen, and Hanson were the pick, but all played hard games. Tho Huia forwards all played well, Sherrats and Wauchope being perhaps the pick. Te Reinga, at wing forward, showed 4 some of his old form. Of the backs Robiasoa showed fine form, both in attack and defence, and gave his best exhibition here so far. He made some splendid openings, bub on several occasions failed jto get his pass away at the right moment-. "Mr W. Gibson controlled the game.
