OTAGO’S ACTIVITY.
’(Per Press 'Association-) DunediD, yesterday.
At a meeting of the Otago League tonight there was a large gathering of town and country residents, and delegates were present from various County Councils and country bodies. The Mayor stated in his opening address that the League was most distinctly to be non-political. An enthusiastic tone pervaded the numerous and forcible addresses delivered. Several speakers pointed out that all such leagues must be more or less political; it was | party politics the League must avoid. The j matters discussed included lands for settlement, prosecution of the Otago railway, necessity for and the advantages of I irrigation’ in the interior, free port at DunediD, development of scenic resorts I and tourist traffic, and the development ef I other resources of the province. Strong I speeches were delivered by members of | Parliament. The meeting which was a j general public one, passed a resolution that it is the special duty of the Otago I members to co-operate in order to compel I the expenditure of all moneys voted for I works within the province, and that at the I general election every candidate should be I pledged to see to the expenditure of I such moneys in the event of his return.
