Christchurch, last night. The appointment ~0l tho Hon. W. P. Reeves as High Oommissioner was incidentally referred to at the meeting of the Political Labour League to-night. One speaker said he regretted the appointment because he had hoped that Mr Reeves would have returned to the colony to take up his old portfolio as Minister for Education. The children aDd the teachers had been neglected in his absence. Mr Seddon might make a good Minister of Education if he gave his whole time to it, but it was impossible for him to do justice to the Department when he held half-a-dozen other portfolios. The President (Mr J. A. McCullough) said he would haye liked to have seen Mr Reeves return to take up the position of Minister for Labor. If they had Mr Reeves in the colony, he might lead the Labor party to victory. He thought that it was under Mr Reeves’ leadership that the party had gained anything they had got in the colony. ./

All the local members of Parliament having declined to . take the pledge demanded by the Political Labor League, it was decided at a meeting to-night to ask the Executive what steps had been taken in other centres regarding the selection of candidates for next election. It was also decided to colleot a fighting fund.
