Per Press Association. ivBlenheim, last night, sit When the Marlborough Education'S Board oponod its meeting yesterday, the " Chairman referred to a visit being paid to New Zoaland by Professor Rutherford, of the McGill University, Montreal, who received his primary education at the Have- - lock Public School, where bo won a scholarship which carried him to Nelson College. A resolution was passed tendering Mr Rutherford a hearty welcome back to his birthland, and congratulating him on the high position his scientific research has gained him. The resolution concluded : “ Tour success, which has given a great stimulus to every scholar in the colony, is, wo believe, but the dawn of further brilliant aohiovements.” The Chairman said that New Zealand in general, and Marlborough in particular, was very proud of Mr Rutherford. Auckland, last night. At the Police Court, in the totalisator odds charge against Barnett and Grant, Christchurch bookmakers, the Magistrate stated that, after careful consideration of the Act, ho had come to the conclusion that the latter part of the section did not apply to the case, and he would withdraw the conviction. After a short adjournment the case was re-opened, and after argument was dismissed without prejudice to'proceedings that might be taken under the second part of the section. .. . :.I
