AUSTRALIANS IN ENGLAND. MATCH AGAINST LEICESTER. By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright London, June 12. The weather was dull after the rain, but the wicket was good. The attendance at the opening was 5000, and afterwards 10,000. Crawford was omitted from the home team, and Kelly,.Laver, Duff, and Cotter stood out of the Australian team. DeTrafford won the toss, and elected to bat, going in himself with Wood to the bowling of McLeod and Howell. After a lively innings the local skipper lifted a well-judged ball to long-on, where it fell into the hands of Noble. The retiring batsman had compiled 63, including one sixand 11 fourers, in 40 minutes. At 54 he was given a life by Hopkins, who failed to hold the ball. One for 69. With the addition of a single, Armstrong dismissed the new-comer, King, and a little later on Knight was smartly taken at the wickets by Newland. Wood, who tqok 50 minutßS in scoring his first couple, failed to stop a fast one from Hopkins in his opening over, and four wickets were down for 105, which had taken about an hour and a half to compile. When the teams adjourned for lunch the scare wa3 127. On resuming tho weather conditions had improved, and tho sun was shining, Whitehead and Coe made an effective stand. The former, by free hitting, especially on the log side, kept the field lively. The scores are :

Coe was cleverly stumped without a n addition to the score, and a few minute 8 later Whitehead was snapped up in the slips. Tho latter played an excellent innings, and hit eleven fourers. The sixth wicket fell at 196. Crawford indulged in some hard hitting. Joyce succumbed to Howell’s first ball, Darling making a good catch on the deep cover point. Eight for 226. Crawford, who had batted 70 minutes made nine fourers. Whitehoad, the last wicket to fall, was dismissed by a wonderful catch by Armstrong in tho slips, the fieldsman securing the ball at the third attempt. Additional scores :

McLeod took 1 wicket for 74, Howell 4 for 87, Armstrong 2 for 31, Noble 2 for 47, Hopkins 2 for 26. Hopkins and Darling opened the -Australian innings, and the former gave an easy chance in the slips which brought about bis downfall. Following are the scores:
