RECENT FIRES.
THE THAMES FATALITY. (Per, Press Association.) Thames, last night. The insurances in the Brian Boru Hotel fire were Buildings, £ISOO in the Norwich Onion, £7OO in the' Phoenix, £SOO in the New Zealand ; furniture, £SBO in the Liverpool London and Globe. The furniture was of ao estimated value of £ISOO. The inquest on Peter MoNab,,not John, as at first reported, and Joseph Sheldon has opened. : Formal evidence of identification was tendered.. The medical evidenoe was that both men died of suffocation. Both bodies were badly blistered. It is evident both rwere aroused and partially dressed, and. were endeavoring to reach the doors of their respective rooms when overcome by dense.smoke, whioh; poured in from-all parts of the building. The inquest was adjourned.
Nelson, last night. The insurances in the ; Motueka fire are : —Bankin and Son : ‘Main‘ building,'£4oo in the South British ; stock £ISOO in the New'Zealdnd- The'loss 'is largely in 6Xoess 'of the insurance. There was £2OO on the grain store,' but none on the'dressmakiqg and implements.' A largo quantity of 'stock was saved. Knapp had- £2OO insurance.- There was '£2so on the 'Foresters’' Hall, but ‘the ’building’ 'was valued at £SOO.
