BOROUGH LIGHTS.

[(To the. Editor Gisborne Times^ Sir, —Your oorroapondonli, “ Ratepayer,'’ is laboring undor a misnpprohonaion regarding tho romoval of tho light from the corner of Carnarvon street and Palmerston

I roaa. &s a maicor oi met is is nun pruposod to iniorforo with that lamp, but ou | tho contrary another lamp ia to bo erooted near tho Beoreatiou Ground, at tho cornor of Carnarvon street and Borry street. Tho proposal was strongly supported by Councillors Sheridan, Whinray and myeolf. It was proposed to put another, lamp at tho cornor of Gladstone road and Carnarvon I street (East’s Cornor), but ns thoro will now bo three lights in Carnarvon street and thoro is a hotol light near whoro it was suggested to pot this one; I supported Couuoillor Sheridan’s resolution to have a light orcctod at Herbert road instoad. If funds were available I would like to soo a ight on overy corner, but under tho cirsumstancos wo must content ourselves by irooting lamps where they are most irgently requirod. If your correspondent [ will visit Herbert road on a dark night he will admit that thoro is no road so badly treated in tho matter of formation, and ho would bo luoky if ho got through without aooident. Your correspondent should enquire into matters- more cloßoly before rushing into print. —I am, etc., John Colluy.
