I London, Juno 9. 1 Tho House of Commons’ Telegraphs I Committee interviewed Mr Austin Chamberlain, seeking a reduction of the Indian rate to Is 6d, and West Africa by 25 per cent. I Mr Sassoon complained of the high Australian terminal charges. He considered that New South Wales treated the Pacific cable unfairly, i Mr Chamberlain romarkod that Britain’s position in the cable world was due to private enterprise. Ho’ saw no reason for the Government at present embarking I further in the cable enterprise. He indiI cated that the Indian rate would shortly I be reduced to 2s, the Egyptian rate to Is, I while the West African was not unfair. It | was unnecessary to refer to the Pacific in I view of tho conference.
