The match was resumed at 11 a.m. It was arranged that stumps should be drawn at 5 p.m. The weather was bleak, and the attendance small. Cotter and Noble resumed the bowling. A ohange was made to Armstrong, who succeeded in disposing of Rothery, Denton was unable to forco the game. Three for 201. Tunnicliffe gave a free display, and was then taken at extra mid-off by Duff. Denton, playing brightly, gave a hard chance when his total was 121 to Cotter at point, off Noble. Four for 237. Denton had another life 25 runs later on from Noble at short-leg, off Armstrong. He was batting 3j hours, and his play wbb characterised by brilliant catting, driving, andpulling. His score inoluded 19 tourers and seven threes. With four wickets down for 266 the innings was declared closed. With Si hours left to play, the Australians commenced their second innings, Hirst was absent, DarliDg was finely taken at the long-off boundary by Denton. Duff was hitting freely. The score at the luncheon adjournment stood at one wicket for 35. After lunch Duff continued to score rapidly, but lost Hill, who waa taken at the wickets. Duff got ten off Ringrose in one over. Two for 68, Duff then gave the substitute a catch at forward squareleg. He batted 65 minutes. Three for 73. The Gregory and Noble partnership was slow. Hunter snapped Gregory at the wickets. Four for 96. A fins partnership was established between Noble and Armstrong. They played out time. Noble played faultlessly for 115 minutes, and the partnership minutes.
