I It is understood that arrangements have I been made by the New Zealand Shipping 1 Company and tho Shaw-SaviU and Albion I Company for a reduction in tho freight on I butter and ohoose. The prosent oontraot I has now two years to run, and tho difficulty I was that shipping companies desired, if a I new oontraot wore made, it should be for I seven years. The companies have now I agreod to a five years* oontract. Ratos for I butter for tho first two years will bo: Boxes, five-eighths of a penny; kogs, I eleven-sixteenths of a pouny ; and for the remaining throe years: Boxes, ninesixteenths of a peony ; kegs, fivo-oighths of a penny. Cheese' freights will be half-pouny [ per pound net weight without primage if tho freight is paid in the colony, and two per cent if paid in London. The saviDg to tho dairy industry is estimated at £25,000 per annum. Tho contract for the South Island will not be concluded until approved by the Dairy Association next week, but it is understood that tho Northern Dairy Association has signed tho oontraot.
