EMPLOYERS’ ASSOCIATION

(Per Press Association.) Wellington, last night. The Executive of the Wellington Em ployers' Association, in its report for the year ending 30th April, congratulates members on the position attained in numbers and iu usefulness. The Assocation continues to grow. The Association began the year with a membership of 252, and 4 ended it with 275. The ideal is an Aesooiation in which every employer in the city has a place, aod the active sympathy of the present membership is solicited in order that this goal may bo speedily reached. *, The gross income for the year was £385, " and the expenditure £379. Most of the recent work of tho Federation has been the tabulating and issuing of resolutions of the Easter Trades and Labor Oounoil Confor- ■✓}<- ence. Those wero distributed to all Employers’ Associations. Their replies hays been gathered, and tho Federation was taking suitable action to present the \ progress. The employers’ views on matters raised in the report concludes : “ Whilst your committee wishes to make perfectly clear the fact that the Association is in no sense inimical to the just rights of workers, we wish also to express tho unabated and , deepening conviction that organisation of ■ employers wos never more necessary than now. Experience of the working of our labor laws proves that they have not been the blessing prophesied. They have not satisfied the Unions, lessened friction, or given the employer security. On the other hand there exists a widespread sense of dissipation, uncertainty, and fear, while the. whole community feel the increased *SC: cost of living. Organised labor, as represented in the faster Conference, still cries aloud for further concessions and privileges, and in almost every trade fresh awards with higher wageH, shorter hours, etc., are being sought. Under these eircumstances organisation is imperative, and members aro urged to assist the Executive in extending tho membership of the Association until the whole employing interest is joined.’i ■ *
