Tait come up to\ the three-quarter line, - and showed much improvement m that position. West End also' included several new men. With the sun anfd wind behind. them the Huia vanguard, headed by. Sherratt and Sefton, put West End on ithe defensive, Tate ju,st clearing by a fine line', kick. Wopih-a and penei further improved the position by nice fqotwork, but Rowe, with a powerful kick,, put the ball oat at the corner. thuja were almost over on several occasions, but the West End defence was too sound. Tier, JVeniha, Parker, and Brown doing some solid graft. Te Reinga, Robinson, and Rowe commenced passing, which resulted in West End gaining ground. Swann broke away from the line, and transferred to Sherratt, who beat three men cleverly, and again placed the West End cm the defensive. Penei, (Tate, and Foley brought temporary relief, but the vanguard were not to be denied, Swann and Wauchopo carried the oval past the quarterline, where 'Rowe snapped it up and dashed for the line. Wepiha upended him close to the line, but Sefton and Park swept the ball over the line, the lati/er scoring close to the touchline. He took the kiok himself, the hall grazing the uprights. Play became faster. The game was wholly confined to the forwards, and as each team was evenly matched in this department, the play became very interesting. Swann, the Huia wing-forwafid, was in splendid form. ' Ellison kicked high among the Hluia hacks, and Sheet following ujn smartly, carried the ball to within a few yards of the Huia goal line, being there overtaken by Lasker. Wepiha took a ha'njd, anfd carrying Robinson with him, scared beside the posts, Tate failed with the kick. Three alii Sharp,- the Huia lull-back, got his Bide out of some tight fixes during the nest stages of the game. The spell ended without addition to the score., . ' With a good breeze behind him Wepiha had a shot at goal from a mark at half- - way. The Huia half shot the ball out to Robinson, who made a fine, run and passed it on to Te Reinga, who kicked out at centre. Leah took the bail on the line- . out and kicked across to Te Reinga, who h kicked out at the West End quarter flag Parker Turei, Wepiha, McLernon, and Hogg carried play back to the centre. Wi Friday, at half for West End, got away from the sorum repeatedly, but failed to give Brown the leather at the right moment. Penei, Olark, and Ellison oarried play into Huia quarters, where a penalty against Huia enabled Wepiha to kick a splendid goal from the touch line. Tate (Huia) took a high kick, and made a fine run up the liue, and West End were soon busy defending their base. Brown saved, and kicked high across the ground. The ball failed to find the line, and Leah,- taking it on the full, beat Foley and scored. Swann failed with the kick. The game ended : Huia 6 points, We3t End 6 points. Mr W. McOrodio had charge of the whistlo, and Messrs J. Martin and Rec 3 Jonos held the line flags.
