EFFECTIVENESS OF JAPANESE TORPEDO BOATS.

RUSSIAN BAD SHOOTING AND AMMUNITION. WOUNDED THROWN OVERBOARD

By Telegraph—Press Association— Copyright Received 4.34 p.m., June 4, . , r London, June 3. A Japanese expedition is starting for thn island of Saghalien. A Japanese naval officer at Sasebo in an interview, said that among the chief roasons of the annihilation of the Russians was the deplorable inaccuracy of their fire and the wretched quality of their explo’ sives. They used to fire too high, and moreover, hundreds of shells failed to explode. Almost every Japanese torpedo struck. One caused a Russian battleship to turn turtle. In the course of twenty hours the Japanese torpedo boats sank seven Russian warships. Advices from Tokio state that at the opeoing of the battle the killed and wounded exercised so harmful au effect on the rest of the crew that an extreme course was taken, 140 hopelessly wounded being cast overboard. Those slightly wounded were placed round the masts oi the vessel fastened so as not to hinder the fighting operations. The crew fought with desperate bravery for a day previous to sur render.
