A trial run on the first section of t electric tramways, from the power hoc to Papanui, took place at midnight • Saturday. Two cars, one a double-deck, were run over the route, and the tf ! - were considered to be sarpassiDgly’sc cessful, as it is rare for a new system be inaugurated without at least a fi minor mishaps. The chairman, of f Board (Mr W. Leecs) expressed him*! delighted with tho result, and comp merited the contractors on the admiral manner in which they had done the work. The official opening of the fii section has been fixed for Mondajy-pe: but is subject to the section being pass by Mr R. W. Holmes, inspecting engine of the Public Works Department, who expected to arrive from Wellington f morrow to pass the work. The treynii of motormeu is proceeding, and it is aDtb pated that there wiil be sufficient skilb men available to drivo tho cars on ti opening day.
