Mr Rood, who appeared for the accused,, said lira ‘client pleaded guilty, Saunders had. made the beta [at Waihi, I-Ie was not a bookmaker and liad only made .the bets for amusement. .There was a strong isusfrdcion that iibo tele "rams were ante-dated, and sent afte/r the race. Mr Mays-, who appeared for the prosecution, said that investigations had been made in respect to the allegation, that the telegrams had been sent after the race, but they found that the dates and times wore correct, and that there was no truth; Whatever ‘in) the suggestion, that ■wrong .times had been ‘put on fbho telegrams. A hne of £2O and costs was imposed, and a like sum in the case of Frank Farrell, a Thames bookmaker (who did not appear). ■A fortnight’s adjournment was allowed in tiro cases against Melton It.
