LATE NEW ZEALAND.

’(Per Press Association.) Wellington, last night. The Chief Justice to-day granted a decree nisi in the enifi Louisa Bait v. George Rait, application for dissolution of marriage on the ground of adultery. During the year ended March Slat the imports to Wellington amounted to 856,017 tons, a decrease of 938 tons on the previous year. The outward shipments amounted to 119,559 tons, a deci-easo of 158 S tons. The wool exported amounted to 121,064 bales. An order-in-oounoil for the extension of the city olectrio tramways to Kilburnie, Island Bay, and Brooklyn has been issued. The work will bo proceeded with at once by the Counoil. John Charles Abbot, aged about 88, a recent arrival from South Africa, was knocked down by an electric car in Willis street to-night and seriously injured. The position of third inspector to the Wellington Education Board has been given to Mr John S. Tenant, head master of the Ashburton High School. There l were 80 applicants. r* The Bov. L. M. Isitt was tendered a weloomo back to New Zealand at the Town Hall to-night. There was a large attendance. Mr Aitken, M.H.R., presided. Mr Isitt met with a warm reception from ! a large gathering. Auckland, last night. , A crowded and enthusiastic mooting was ' held in the Federal Hall to-night under - the . auspices of the Bible in Schools League. Addresses in favor of the objoets ' of the League were delivered by the - Anglican Bishop of Auckland, the Hon. E. Mitohelson and others. Resolutions were j carried in favor of the Bible in schools ‘ referendum, and generally approving of the League’s policy. It was also resolved that candidates for Parliament be questioned a 3 to their views on the referendum, Dunedin, last night.

The Rev. Father Hays addressed a large and enthusiastic meeting in the Garrison Hall to-night.
