FARMERS’ UNION.
(Per Press Association,) Christchurch, last night. The Provincial Conference of the North Canterbury Farmers’ Union was opened to-day. Mr J. O’Elalloran, retiring president, said the colony had been undoubtedly prosperous during the yoar. Ho moved, and it was unanimously agreed, to send a telegram to tho Premier, congratulating him upon tho state of the colony, and also on tho improvement of his health. Mr J. A. Pannett, of Green Park, was elected president, and -Mr D. Jones, Templeton, vice-president. It was decided to recommend the Government to prohibit the importation of bones, in order to prevent the .spread of anthrax. A -remit that auc- I tioneers' commission on sales of wool I should not exceed 2£ per cent was referred I to the eseoutive with power to act.
