BRANDING OF CARCASES
IMPORTANT INVENTION.
(Per Press Association.) I Christchurch, last night. An important invention for marking the carcases of frozen meat has bosn patented by Mr A. J. Roberts, instructor in electricity at the Kaiapoi Technical classes, Tho principle adopted is the burning in of the brand on the carcase by means of electricity. The letters comprising' the brand consist of pluttum wire on a plate of mica. Electricity is conveyed along these I wires, and tho stamp applied to the carcase, with tho result that the brood is I clearly and cleanly burned in. It is claimed that the brand cannot be obliter- I ated except by cutting off tho portion of I the carcase treated. I
Mr T. Anderson, Government Inspector at the Canterbury Meat Co.’s freezing works at Belfast, has tested this new method of branding, and is satisfied with the results. Carcases branded by the process and frozen remained in the freezing ohambers for three weeks, and when taken out and tested the brands had no signs of obliteration. I
Mr Roberts intends placing his mvem ion before the Department of Agriculture.
