mu w , , S y dn ey> May 19. The Women a Conference passed a reso* ution strongly favoring uniform divorce laws m the Commonwealth, and that the grounds of divorce ba made equal for men and women. Statistics wore quoted showing that the proportion of divorces to marriages was: West Australia one in 555 Queensland ono in -435, South Australia one in 400, Victoria one in 74, New South Wales one in 36, Careless mothers .were most blamed for unhappy marriages, liiere was a preponderance of opinion that divorce was too easy. It was also resolved to favor a further reduction of members of the State Parliament, with an increase of payment sufficient to attract the ablest men ; also for an amendment of the Arbitration Act so as _to make it answer the purpose for which it was brought into existence. It was contended that the effect had been interference with the ordinary course of business instead of preventing strikee. It pressed in many ways upon employers, and caused increased uomands on workers.
