NARROW ESCAPE.

(Per Press Association.) Auckland, last night. Wbon the Land Commission was proceeding from Rswcne to Taheke by steam launoh a man named J. Thompson fell ovorboard. Ho was closely buttoned in a heavy overcoat. In an attempt to pnt the helm over tho steering gear broke. Various articles drere thrown overboard. Thompson was soen swimming a long way astern. Wbon tho launch reached him Captain Blundell jumpod overboard with a lifebelt, and the rope accidentally pulled into the water .George Dickeson, gum merchant, who was unable to swim. The three men were in tho water together, but all were rescued. Thompson and Dickeson were iD an exhausted condition.
