Brnoo and Carlisle resumed the unfinished innings. Patient batting was the order of the day at the outset, neither taking any risks. , The fourth wicket fell at the end of an hour's play, during which only nine were added, Carlisle getting leg-before to Armstrong. - Four for 84; Bruce 52. Worsley joined Bruce, and the latter again livened up. At 69 he played one from Lover on to the wicket. He showed stylish, excellent cricket, and made seven fourers. Five for 108. Morris, when three, was cleverly caught by Trumper with his left hand, low down at second slip, off Laver. Six for 114; Worsley 4. With Bird’s assistance Worsley added 4 more, and then gave Gehrs an easy catch at third man from McLeod. for 126. Udal at five succumbed to a catoh at mid-off off Laver. Eight for 131. Bird and Martin carried the score to 152. Bird placed Laver in the slips, Armstrong taking the catch with his right hand, and went out. Nino for 152. Burn contributed Bevon before he was bowled by McLeod, Martin carrying out his bat for 17. The innings closed for 167. Scores:— OXFORD—Ist innings. At the adjournment the score stood at 18 without the loss of a wioket; Trumper 11, Duff 7. The weather was dull when play was resumed. The attendance was 4000. Both batsmen were playing very free cricket, and the runs oame fast, three overs yielding 40. When 45 bad been compiled by brillinpt all-round play, Trumper played Udal on. One for 104. Duff 52. After 55 mioutes at the wickets, during which he totted up 61, he was bowled by Evans with a yorkor. He gave a dashing exhibition. Two for 114. Gregory made three, and then-Udal found his wicket. Three for 120. Gehrs 4. The latter had Hopkins’ assistance, and at 14 succumbed to a good one from Evans, Four for 130. Hop. kins was content with a similar score, Bird at backstop catching him off Udal. Five for 152. Noble and Armstrong became partners when the former had eight to his credit, and kept tbe field moving before a separation was effected by a catch made by Bird off Evans at tbe wioket at Armstrong’s expense, when the latter was at 25. He had increased the total by 53. Six for 200 ; Noble 34. Darling retired, being easily canght at oover-point by Burn off Evans, without scoring or any alteration to the total.
