A cadet named Stanley Ashton was accidentally shot at Ararat, Victoria, by a comrade. A number of cadets were going through a course of musketry instruction, and Ashton and another lad named Johnson started to walk home together, Johnson’s rifle being slung over his shoulder. On the way home the rifle, which contained an unexploded cartridge, went off, and the bullet entered Ashton’s chest. He i lies in a critioul condition in a private boa--1 pital at Ararat.
