ACCIDENT IN GLADSTONE ROAD.
BRIDAL PARTY’S CARRIAGE OVERTURNED.
A somewhat unusual and exciting accident oocutred in Gladstone Boad, at the oorner of Grey street, lost evening. A bridal party was proceeding down the street in two carriages when the driver of the first carriage signalled to the second to stop. The front carriage being pulled up somewhat smartly gave the driver of the second one little time to reduce his pace, with the result tha) the front wheel of the cab came under the axle of the vehicle ahead, and overturned it. The accident was observed by a number of people, and a large crowd quickly collected. The front carriage which contained the bride and bridegroom was turned ovei; on its side, but the driver fortunately succeeded in keeping his horses on their feet and under control, enabling the occupants of the carriage to oa relieved from their precarious position, and, needless to say, they lost no time in scrambling out. Neither the bride nor bridegroom were seriously hurt. Some damage was done to the vehicle, the axle being considerably boat, whilst one of the lamps was smashed; the driver of the carriage also received a slight injury to his ankle. There were several occupants in the second carriage, bnt they fortunately esaaped without injury, and the whole of the party were driveh back to the residence of the bride, whore they received every attention. The aecidont was apparently caussd through the driver of the second carriage failing to apply Shis brake in time, and as the horses were travelling at a smart pace he was unable to pull them up before they came in contact with the front vehicle.
