Westport, last night. .- , Father Hays loft this morning for Roof* ton, whore bo will rest over Tuesday at (the Catholic Presbytery as the guest of Father Gallais. Last evening the Homan Catholics of Westport hold a public demonstration in the Catholio school in honor of tho visit of .Eethor Hays. There was a crowded and enthusiastic audience. On behalf of the Roman Catholio congregation of Westport Father Hays was presented with an illuminatod address and gold cross. Tho reverend father graciously acknowledged tho compliment. He said that in his work ho did not seek honors ; ho simply wished to do good to all men. without distinction of race or creed. His crusado in England had been singularly blessed, and ho had everywhere mat with great success. - Conoludipg, ho pleaded earnestly that Catholios should always prove themselves good and useful members of the community by manfully taking their part in tho scoial life of tho colony and fulfilling faithfully their duties and responsibilities as citizens. The gathering conoluded with vigorous oheers for Father Hays and his host, the Rev. Mr Barton (Presbyterian), and for prohibition.
