At the County Council meeting .yesterday Mr A. R. Mackay, County-Engineer, was retired. The County Council decided to construct a new deviation to Tubara, which practically means a devel road to Waikokopu, and nearly two miles shorter. Christchurch; Saturday. Mr G, W. Ruasell has definitely decided to contest Riccarton seat.
Timaru, Saturday. ■Mr W. S. MaeliD, Mayor of Geraldine, hao -just issued a writ on , the Hon. J. _M. Twbmey,.M.L:o., claiming £IOOO damages for libel alleged to have bcen contained in amarticle in the latter’s paper, the Ternuka Leader,' on April 18th. - The' article was in reference to evidence givon by Mr, Maslin before the Land Commission in Timaru. The case is to comb on for hearing at the next Bitting of the Supremo Court at Timaru on June 6th. - ' ; -
