FATHER HAYS’ MISSION.
J '(Per Press Association.) | Westport, last night, J . The Rev. Father Hays has concluded I his temperanoe crusade in Westport, over | five hundred having taken his temperance I pledge. This morning be celebrated mass I at 8 o’clock in St. Canices’ Roman Oatholio I Churoh. As an outcome of a pnblic meetI ing of Roman' Catholics held the other I evening to form a reception committee a I large and enthusiastic demonstration was j held to-day in the Catholic School, when j Father Hays was publioly welcomed and I presented oh behalf of tho Roman Catholic I congregation of Westport with an illuminated address and gold cross. In acknowledging the presentation Father Hayes I spoke in very encouraging terms of the splendid success which had everywhere attended his work in New Zealand. He urged the Catholics to take their place in the social life of tho colony, and bo steadfast and useful citizens.
