BONEDUST.
(Per Press 'Associations) • Auckland, last night. At the conference of delegates to the Auckland Provincial Branch of the Now Zealand Farmers’ Union the question of ) prohibiting the importation into Now Zealand of bones and bonedust for fertilising purposes was raised. A committee set up to go into the whole matter reported that the use of substitutes for bonedust could - be obtained at tbo same cost, but the use of B/iohvyVould be experimental. It was conthat the prohibition of the importation of bonedust would be Beriously detrimental to the interests of farmers requiring the usß of such fertilisers. The cost of tr>seiing»bonedust in a sterilising plant as suggested by the Agricultural Department would involve too serious a cost for the committee to recommend such a course ; and the committee wa3 of opinion that sufficient supervision at tbo port of departure on the lines undertaken by the Government, and continued inspection at tbo port of arrival, would be the most practicable means of dealing with the anthrax difficulty. In concluding the committee strongly recommended the Government to give Mr J. A. Pond’s scheme for the sterilisation of bonedust a thorough trial. The report.was unanimously^ adopted. t- —■— •••
