The Rev. Thomas Torrie, the oldest minister of the Auokland Presbytery, has died at Papahura. He was invalided for three months since he was stricken with paralysis whilst preaohing at Mereer. He was aged 79.

John Keogh Douglas, oiaim £l6 4b 6d, costs £1 10s fid ; Hallenstein Bros. (Mr R, U. Burke) v. Win. and Margaret Olive, claim £l7 9s 2d, costs £1 13s 6d. In the case of Evans, Nield and Co. (Mr Chrisp) v. Wo. Olive, defendant did not appear, and His Worship made an order for the payment of the debt and oosts, £2O 16s’ 9d, forthwith, in default 21 days’ imprisonment in'Gishorno police gaol, Tbe Royal Hotel at Raglan, whioh wa3 burned. an Sunday morning, was a very old house, ana of the oldest in the towD, and in a very lew minutes it was reduced
to the ground. The bptel was full at the time, and it is fortunate that in such a rambling old place all were got cut safely. The proprietor (Mr S. Ferguson), his wife and family, and the girls employed in the place (all of whom were sleeping in rooms above the kitchen) were compelled to escape in their night olethea, and lost everything olse. Nothing was saved except three barrels of beer, whioh were rolled
out of tbe bar. Only a few months ago tbe Harbor View Hotel was destroyed, and now, before the new building has .been completed, the other hostelry has been demolished,
