Christchurch, last night. The stewards of the Christchurch Jockey Club to-day decided to disqualify the jookey L. King, the trainer J. Lewis, and the horse Manjess for 12 : mdntbs for deliberate pulling in the Welter Handicap at the Christoburch Baaing Club’s meeting last Saturday.

At a largely attended meeting of the Shopkeepers’ Protection Association, held to-night, to discuss the Shops and Offioes Act, it was unanimously decided to keep the shops open, the association to pay the costs of those who might be taken to Court. One speaker said if they did not wish to be ruined they must defy the law. It was also decided that the members of the association would nob support candidates for Parliament unless they were in favor of the repeal of section 8 of the Act. Dunedin, last night. The D.J.C. oommittee to-day decided to alter the dates of the winter meeting from June 2 and 8 to Saturday, June 8, and Monday, June 5. AUCKLAND, last night.

Obituary : Rev. B. MoKinuey, Presbyterian ministar, aged 79. He resided in the same house at Mahaurangi for 59 years.

The Hon. O. H. Mills addressed a meeting of his constituents at Blenhaim tonight, and a vote of oontinued confidence in the member and the Government was accorded.
