(Per Presa 'Association:.:) Christchurch, last night. The Governor. Lady Plonket and the Hon. Kathleen Plunket visiled the Burn, ham Induatrial School to-diy, and spent several hours inspecting the institution. [ An address of welcome, written by the boys' j was read by one of them, aid His Excellency replied to ft. The Governor also briefly addressed the boys ind told them he had had experience of iniistrial schools for boys in England and Inland and he found that those who had dme well when they went out into the worlcdid not owe their eucoess to luck or theeoasession of any particular cleverness, buteohard work and determination to get cm. Ilf the boys before him started o,ut with scch aims they would, with .<jho help of God, fa successful. He desired the boys to retrtmber these* words as having been spoke from his heart by their Governor. Thj boys went through physical exercises, aid then the fire alarm was giveD, to whih *he boys responded smartly and got to heir respective posts with great promptitfie. An old colonist. Mrs James Sarker, died at Kaiapci yesterday. With hr late husband Mrs Barkor oamo to Lyttlton in the ohip'Cressy. Sho had competed.about fifty years in the colony, and jlaimed to be the first European woman io take up her permanent residence at laiapoi It was in her house that the Metbdists’and Presbyterians hold their first iervices in Kaiapoi. The deceased lady ths eightyseven years of age, and leaves ta children thirty-seven grandchildren an< twentythree greatgrandchildren. J
