EDUCATION DISTRICTS.
PROPOSED RE-ARRANGEMENT.
(Per Press Association.) | Palmerston North, last night. I At a meeting of the Chamber of Com- I merce to-nigbt a discussion took place on the educational boundaries. The opinion was oppressed that the southern portion of the North Island boundaries should bo ro adjusted, with a view of giving batter representation, and preserving the community of interest which had been dis-
turbed of recent years by new developments of settlement end other causes. Mr 1 P. C- Freeth moved in the direction of np- 1 proaebing Government to constitute a now educational district with a oentre at 1 Palmerston North. In order to effect this | ho suggested that tbo Wellington educational district should be restricted to the area extending to Eketahuna on the one | side and Otaki on the other, the Hawke s i Bay educational district to take in the localities from Poverty Bay to Ormondville the Taranaki district being the nrea from New Plymouth to Patea, the Wanganni district the area between Paten to Marton, including Taihope and towns on the North Trunk Railway, and that the new district should radiate from Palmersaton North to Ormodsville, Eketahuna, and Otaki respectively. It was resolved to discuss the proposal at a moet_ ins of the Members of Parliament, which has bcou convened to consider local questions on the 16th inst. .
