Regarding the proposal sf the Primate of New Zealand (Bishop Nevill) for a Concordat between the Anglican church and the Salvation Army, the following statement by the Primate in the course of his sermon at the consecration of the Christchurch Cathedral in November last will bo of interest“ The Salvation Army, largely outside the Churches’ bounds, tho surprise and wonder of all—what was it but a witness that in the oonturios last passed the Church was so much ongcossod with con v troversy that she forgot to do good and to love mercy, and dismissed wholo armies of her workers, lost tho diaconate, refused sisterhoods, and neglected or observed not the real condition of the poor. The Church had been trying to recover lost ground indeed, but this strange organisation proved nothing more clearly than that the Church was only partially awake, and that many more special agents were required, -tor his part, he was bold to say tbat overtures of friendship should be made to the beads of the Salvation Army, with a view to some form of alliance. Ho should like to see a great army gathering in the Christohurch Cathedral. Tho Bishop could address them, aod they perhops mighty learn that if they were to live and do Christian work it would not be by tearing to pieces with loud outcries and physical emot on, but by organic union with the body of Christ.”
