I A public meeting was held this evening i j to launch tho Otago League, promoted by I the Mayor of tho oity (Mr T. R. Christio) I with the object of advancing "the material | J interests of the provincial distriot in variJ ous directions. Tho Mayor presided, and I j among those who proposed or supported I I resolutions were three oity M.H.R.’s, the I j members for Waikouaiti, Tuapeka, I I Chalmers, Taieri and Bruce. Representa- I | fives were also present from most of the I country Councils, and altogether a good I ! deal of enthusiasm was displayed. It was I resolved to form an Otago League for tho I purpose of promoting and assisting by j every legitimate means public movements I i for tho advancement of the interests of I < Otago, and the Mayor was heartily, thanked I i for originating the idea.
