QUESTION OF SALARIES.
(Pew Press Associations) Wellington, last night. At a meeting of tho Harbor Board tocommunication was received from 1 ’%'e Shipmasters’ Association, enclosing a Scale of salaries which it was suggested Isdc-nid be adopted for remuneration of harbormasters, pilots, tug and dredge masters. It was pointed out that other Ha-bor Boards wero being approached on the subject. The rates of pay proposed for tho prinoipal ports were : Harbormasters, £SOO pec annum; obief pilots, £350 : pilots, £300; tug or dredgemasters, £2BO. The secretary of the Board explained that by the system of annual increments now in force, officers in Wellington would by next year be receiving the amounts it was suggested should be paid, except with regard to the junior of three pilots. It was decided to reply that any complaints of insufficient salaries generally paid to harbormasters and pilots did not apply to Wellington.
