A FREE LANGE OPINION.

'(To the Editor Gisborne .Times.) Sir, —1 think tpe intelligent portion of your readers were more than surprised that you considered it necessary to taka Mr Lissant Claytou seriously. I thought yon would not have been caught so easily by his class of politician, who by mudthrowing gain a sort of notoriety which to a certain degree brings him before the public. He has succeeded in gaining a cheap advertisement, both for himself and his business, and if he has succeeded in doing even that it has been a good return a for the amount of matter contained in hi letter against ths Government. • I recommend the method to all the other commission agents in this town as being a cheap way of lotting the pnblic know who and what they are. I have hopes of Mr Clay- , ton becoming a sensible local politician in y the course of auother ten years. If ho will only not attempt too much what is ' called “ barrack ” and settle. down into a logical local politician, and after which there is no reason why be should not aspire to become a member of Parliament. In the meantime I would-urge him to get rid of that flippant style of writing against the Government because he thinks it pleases a certain portion of your readers, without any respect to what is considered good taste, —I. am, etc., j- A Free Lance.
