FLAXBOURNE CASE.
THE JUDGMENT.
(Per Press Association.) Blenheim, last night. The Compensation Coart sat at 9 o’clock this morning and announced its decision in tho case of Clifford v. the Minister of Lands, a claim of £335,000 in-respect to the compulsory acquisition of Flaxbourne estate. The Chief Justice said ho was glad to be able to announce that the Court had come to an nnanimous.agreement. They assessed the price to be paid for. the land taken (approximately 45,600 acres) at £172,175. In addition they assessed the loss caused by disturbance of business at £7500, and tho costs to bo paid by respondents to claimants at £2OOO. The total of these sums was £181,675. In accordance with the agreement betwoen tho parties the Court fixed the rate of interest to be paid as from March 31st, 1905 (the date of giving up possession) at 5 per cent per annum until payment of the amount awarded. The Judge fixed the assessors’ Co3t3 at 10 guineas each per day (eight days’ sittings), each party to pay bis own assessor. The Court then rose finally.
