Two first offenders for drunkenness woro cautioned and discharged at the Police Court yesterday.
Local merchant houses will be closed on Friday, Saturday and Monday for the Easter holidoys. All claims against tho estate of the late Mr Alfred Charles Forrester, of Tokomaru Bay, must be rendered to Mr H. H. Faitlie, of that place. Tho Banks will bo closed noxt Friday, Saturday, and Monday for Easter holidays ; also, on Tuesday, 26th inat., on account of St. George’s Day. Tho Napier Frivolity Minstrels will arrive by the Zoalandia on Saturday morning and will appear at His Majesty’s Theatre the same evening and return to Napier by tbo Tarawora on Sunday.
Large entries have been reoeived for the Matawhoro stock sales to-day. Messrs Common, Shelton and Co., and Dalgety and Co. will commence their Bales at 10.80 and Messrs Williams and Kettle at 11.30 a.in.
If sufficient inducement offers Messrs Redstone and Sons will run special coaches to Morere to-morrow morning at 7 o’clock, returning on Monday. If the present fine weather continues a large number of Gisborne residents should be induced to make the trip. A meeting of the Gisborne Reohabite Tent was held last evening, Bro. T. A. Holdsworth, Chief Ruler, presiding. It was resolved that the matter of a picnic for the juvenile mombers stand in abeyance for tbo prosent. Aftor transacting routine business, the members of the Tent indulged in friendly games of oards. Mr W. Miller is in receipt of advice from Mr R. Stewart, business manager for Mr J. C. Williamson, that the Repertoire Opera Company will play Gisborne on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, May Btb, 9th and 10th. The operas to be produced will be selected from the following repertoire:—“ Mikado,” “ Pirates of Penzanoe,” “ Yeoman of the Guard,” “ Pinafore,” “ lolanthe,” and “ Patience.” The sale of tho freehold of the Te Karaka Hotel from Mr George How Chow to Mr L. C. Allen is reported by Messrs Sheridan and Co. The firm also report the lease of tho Tolago Bay Hotel from Mr George Spence to Mr VV. F. Sinclair, and an eight years’ extension of the lease of Ormond Hotel from Mr F. A. Martin to Mr Con. Neenan ; also the sale of Mr Kehoe Dempsey’s Te Hapara property to a local investor.
At the Magistrate’s Court yesterday Marv Hollis (Mr R. U. Burke) applied for a maintenance order for her five young children. The defendant, Joseph Hollis, consented to an order being made, and the Magistrate ordered payment of 5s per week for the wife and 2s 6d per week for eaoh of tho children until they attained the age of 14 years. The applicant was given custody of tho children.
