William Mooro, the lunatic who escaped from Avondale Asylum, was errested by Constable Law at Darling Creek. It seems that he landed on the coast near Cabbage Bay, where .he abandoned the boat in which he loft Auckland, and walked through the bush to Driving Creok. He looks none the worse for his trip, ' It was thought almost certain that Moore had been drowned during tho rongh weather of Thursday, as a party of asylum officials and a constable carried out a systematic but unsuccessful search for him in the neighbourhood of Waiheke, A seam of coal, outcropping in a narrow gully, has been discovered in the vicinity of Waimate North, Bay of Islands. A lad discovered the outcrop, the bottom of the gully forming the roof of the seam, and the green sandstone abovo has evidently been washed away. The coal is bituminous, and of good quality. It is outside the area offered to an English syndicate, and an option for prospecting has been secured locally,—Star. Two Maori children atOuewbero found an old Pakeha Maori named William Godfrey dead in his whare on 12th April. The deceased used to holp the ohildren with their lessons, and on going into the whare as usual they found him sitting on the bed, leaning against the wall. They thought he was asleep, but could not awaken him, and consequently told a passer-by, who found that the old man was dead. At the inquest held at Pukekohe death was certified as being due to heart disease, and a verdict was returned accordingly.
