There was great interest in the first appearance of Shrubb and Duffv. i The 100 yards sprint was won by 1:1 Barker, of New South Wales, who beatDuffy by six inches. The American led , Irtj to within 29 yards of the finish. Barker * . ? made a splendid spurt and passed him, winning in 10 15 sec. - - The mile championship of New South Wales weDt to Shrubb, who beat Wheatley, of Victoria, by 20 yards in 4.26 3 5. The five miles resulted : Murray, New South Wales (3.35), 1; Wood, New South Wales (2.50), 2; Grindal, New South Wales (2.5), 3. The race was run in Bemi-jj darkness. Shrubb did not finish. A prOtf ■* test has been entered, and probably the race will be re-run. The time was 28.36 3-5.
