ROWING.

THE TEN-STONE CREWS. (By “ OUTEIGGEK.”) W. Haokett (stroke) is a good man for the position ; ho is another veteraD ; pulls a long quick stroke, with plenty of daßh with tho catch but finishes rather slovenly ; W. Schrafft : ThU is his first season of rowing, but he has proved himself a good rower, at present rather slow getting his hands away, and does not take the water quick enough ; A. McConnell (No. 3): The same remarks apply to this oarsman, beiDg a good stamp of a rower and very fit ; P. Peterson (bow) has been rowing for some time and is a good man in the position. Altogether they are a good combination, and have a good chance in their first raca with Gisborne. The course was about 1 mile, from Mr Cussens’ jetty to the sheds. Mr Chas. Taylor sent the crews away with a very even start, and Puflett (Gisborne) Bteadily drew his crew away right from the start, and at the hospital hend had a dear-water lead. Approaching the footbridge the Poverty Bay coxswain took a bad course, probably on account of the light, and the stroke side oars struck the bridge. From there out the Gisborne crew had matters their own way, though the Poverty Bay’s sturdy stroke (S Roderick) made strenuous efforts, Tho Gisborne crew were : H. M. Puflett (stroke), H, P. Hamilton (3), G. Butler (2) and M. H. Doyle (bow).
