A letter by Lord Tennyson was read at the annual meeting of the Aborigines Protection Society. He was appalled at tbe revelations in Dr Roth’s report, and hoped they would lead to West Australia, adopting a comprehensive . policy for stamping out the abominable iniquities evidently rampant there. It was resolved to insist on equitable native legislation in British possessions. Paris, April 13. The Chamber of Deputies, by 422 to 45, approved of Article 1 of the Chureh aud State Separation Bill, guaranteeing freedom of conscience in public worship, subject to restrictions essential to public order.
St. Petersburg, April 13. M. Gorki has been permitted to proceed to Yalta, Crimea, to reoruit his health. Received 10.17 p.m., April 13. Sydney, April 13. Sailed, the Everton Grange, for New Zealand ports. A large deputation, representing all amateur sporting bodies, waited on the Chief Secretary, and asked for legislation to suppress betting at sports - meetings. The Minister promised favorable consideration. Brisbane, April 13. Government strongly objects to the Vancouver subsidy being paid by New South Wales and Queensland alone. The States should contribute in the same way as the subsidy to European mails is paid.
