FRASERTOWN NOTES

A meeting of the Frasertown school committee was held on Saturday evening, April Ist. The following were present : Messrs J. Davey (Chairman), Tunks, G. Rigby,' G. Jenkins and Lawton. A circular was read from tho Petone school committee re a petition to the Minister of Justice, praying for an amend, mont of the Education Act, in the direction of making more explicit provision for the proper coDaultation of school committees by the Education Boards, in the appointment and removal of the teachers, The Ghoirman was authorised to Bign tho petition. ' Mr Walter Robson, Into of Waibi station, wrote enclosing cheque for £5 ns a donation towards prizes for deserving pupils attending the Frasertown school.
On the motion of the Chairman a hesrty vote of thanks was passed to Mr Robson for his generous gift. A general meeting of the Wairoa County Dog Trial Club was hold at tho Frasertown Hotel on Saturday ovoning, Ist iust. Present : Messrs G. Heslop (in the chair), W. Grimsdale, H. J. Kent, A. E. Beckett, J. Patterson, A. Sinclair, T. Davey, A. Sleed, J. Davey, A. Rigby, P. Couper, F. Steed. The minutes of last meeting having been read and confirmed, the secretary road the balance Bhoet, which showod a credit balance of 17s. Mr W. A. Neale was elected vice-president. It was decided to hold the next trials on 2nd and 3rd May. Votes of thanks were pnssed to Mr T. Davey for his offer of sheep for trials, and to Mr P. Couper for tho use of his ground. It was decided that the prizes in each class should bo : First, 1 £4 and trophy ; second. £2; third, £l. Mr G. Heslop. gave a donation of a guinea for the dog scoring points at the trial. The Te Kapu Rifle Club held its first match of season at the! range here on Saturday, Ist April, the ranges being 200, 500 and 600 yards, standard 96. Tho competition was for a marble clock, field glasses, medals, etc. There was a large muster of riflemen and keen interest was taken in the proceedings. The weather was unfavorable, a strong westerly gale makiDg good shooting extremely difficult, but notwithstanding some excellent scores were made. Riflejnan Clifton headed the list with 94 at the®three ranges, Rifleman G. Rigby 86, Capt. Chapman 85, J. Rain &3, Roberts 83, T. Hall SO, F. Stead 80, W. G. Cooper 78, S. Twigg 70.
